Antique 835 Silver Filigree Bracelet · Koi Fish & Octopus · Circa 1920s
An exceptional antique 835 silver bracelet dating to approximately the 1920s, constructed from a series of wide articulated panels filled with intricate open filigree work.
Each articulated panel is filled with extraordinarily fine open filigree and topped with a large dimensional applied motif. The designs draw heavily from aquatic and botanical imagery, including koi fish, an octopus-like sea creature, flowers, leaves and scrolling foliage. The koi are particularly detailed, with individually engraved scales, fins and flowing tails giving them a strong sense of movement against the delicate filigree background.
At approximately 42.6 mm—or just under 1 3/4 inches—wide, this is a substantial statement bracelet. Despite its width, the individually hinged panels allow it to articulate around the wrist rather than behaving like a rigid cuff.
The bracelet is stamped 835, indicating 83.5% silver, and weighs a substantial 49.3 grams. Areas of naturally darkened patina remain throughout the recessed filigree and engraved decoration, emphasizing the depth and complexity of the workmanship.
A particularly striking piece of early 20th-century silverwork and one we will leave exactly as it is rather than heavily polishing.
