Art Deco Bakelite Belt Buckle · Green Glass & Rhinestones · 1930s
A striking 1930s Art Deco belt buckle combining carved translucent amber-orange Bakelite with emerald-green glass and rhinestone-set metal panels.
The rectangular buckle is made in two interlocking halves. Each half features a large square faceted green glass stone positioned diagonally opposite the other, surrounded by rows of small clear rhinestones in a geometric gold-tone setting. The outer Bakelite frame is deeply carved with an angular repeating pattern that catches the light beautifully.
The buckle separates at the centre and reconnects with a small metal hook fitting on the reverse. Narrow metal loops at either end were designed to accommodate the belt or ribbon.
There is visible age and wear to the rhinestones and metalwork, including darkening and some loss of brilliance to the small stones. The Bakelite also shows normal age-related surface wear. These details are visible in the photographs and are consistent with an original vintage piece.
