A striking pair of vintage cufflinks featuring large oval opal cabochons individually set in polished 14K yellow gold bezels.
 
The opals display beautiful play-of-colour, with flashes of green and blue along with warmer tones appearing as the stones catch the light. Their simple gold bezels allow the colourful opals to remain the focus of the design.
 
The bezels appear to have been individually handcrafted, with subtle differences in their size and shape giving each cufflink its own character rather than the perfectly uniform appearance of a machine-made pair. There are no visible hallmarks; the gold bezels have been acid tested as 14K gold.
 
Both opals show chips and surface wear from previous use, particularly around their edges. The damage is visible in the photographs and has been taken into consideration when pricing. Despite their age-related wear, the opals retain attractive colour and make these a distinctive pair of vintage cufflinks.
 
The cufflink fittings have been tested separately and are not gold; they appear to be gold-plated base metal.
