Vintage 10K Gold Hematite Pendant · Marquise Alaskan Black Diamond
A vintage 10K yellow gold pendant featuring an elongated, faceted black hematite gemstone, traditionally also referred to by the trade name Alaskan black diamond.
The marquise-shaped hematite has a deep gunmetal-black appearance with a distinctive metallic lustre. Its broad, angular facets catch the light in contrasting shades of charcoal, silver-grey and black, creating a highly reflective surface.
The gemstone is secured within a decorative yellow gold setting, with individual gold claws positioned along its elongated sides. The outer edge follows the marquise shape with subtle scalloped detailing, giving the pendant a more substantial and architectural appearance.
An open-backed setting reveals the reverse of the hematite, while a polished tapered gold bail and connecting ring allow the pendant to hang naturally from a chain.
The pendant is stamped 10K on the reverse and weighs approximately 2.5 grams. The combination of dark hematite and warm yellow gold gives this vintage piece a particularly strong contrast.
The reverse of the gemstone shows surface scratches consistent with previous wear. The gold setting also displays light age-related surface wear.
