Antique 1899 Sterling Silver Pepperette · G W Harvey & Co · Birmingham

A tiny late-Victorian sterling silver pepperette made in Birmingham, England in 1899 by G W Harvey & Co.
 
The miniature pepper shaker has a cylindrical body with a rounded domed top pierced with multiple small dispensing holes. Two raised bands encircle the upper portion, with another narrow raised border around the base. Its simple, compact form is characteristic of small Victorian table silver.
 
The underside carries a complete group of British silver hallmarks identifying it as sterling silver assayed in Birmingham in 1899, together with the maker’s mark for G W Harvey & Co.
 
At just under 30mm tall, this is an especially small example, weighing approximately 3.3 grams.
 
It remains in distinctly antique condition with substantial dark patina, surface wear and areas of uneven finish. There is also a visible dent to one side of the body, shown in the photographs. We have left the silver in its existing aged condition rather than heavily polishing it.
