Antique Gorham Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Knife • Chantilly Pattern Variant ...

$265.00Price

Introduced by Gorham in 1894, the celebrated Imperial Chrysanthemum pattern is one of the American silversmith's most elaborate and distinctive designs. This antique sterling silver master butter knife showcases the pattern beautifully, with deeply sculpted chrysanthemums, curling foliage and ornate scrollwork extending along both sides of the handle.

The broad, gently curved blade was designed for serving butter from the table, a wonderful reminder of the specialized serving pieces once found in formal Victorian dining services. At approximately 8 inches long, the piece has a substantial feel in the hand while retaining the extraordinary detail for which the Imperial Chrysanthemum pattern is known.

The reverse is clearly marked STERLING alongside Gorham's distinctive lion, anchor and G maker's trademark. The piece is unmonogrammed, leaving the beautifully decorated design uninterrupted.

A wonderful addition to a collection of Gorham silver, antique American flatware or Imperial Chrysanthemum pieces, it would also make a beautiful and unusual serving piece for today's table.

As an antique piece, it shows surface scratches, patina and signs of use consistent with its age. Please view the photographs closely as they form an important part of the description.
