Victorian Garnet Pendant/Brooch Conversion, Circa 1890

An impressive late Victorian garnet jewel, originally made as a brooch and later converted for wear as a pendant. The large oval form is densely set with deep red faceted garnets arranged in concentric floral and rosette patterns, creating a richly dimensional surface.
 
The garnets range from small accent stones to larger round and pear-shaped stones, with multiple raised tiers giving the piece considerable depth. A scalloped outer border of larger garnets frames the intricate central arrangement.
 
The original brooch pin is no longer present. A later 10K gold bail/jump-ring fitting has been added at the former pin fitting, allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. This conversion is visible from the reverse and has been taken into account in the description and pricing.
 
The original body is unmarked and was represented to us as gold plated or rolled gold. Because the original pin assembly has been removed, it is possible that any original maker or metal information was located on that component.
 
This is a substantial antique garnet piece at nearly 4 cm long, with the dark wine-red colour and densely set construction associated with Victorian Bohemian garnet jewellery.
