Vintage Italian Sterling Silver St Christopher Medal · 925 Travel Pendant

A vintage Italian sterling silver St. Christopher medal, depicting Saint Christopher carrying the Christ Child across the water. The raised central image is surrounded by the inscription “SAINT CHRISTOPHER · PROTECT US”, a traditional design associated with protection for travellers.
 
Made in Italy, the reverse is stamped M.J.I., 925 and ITALY. The medal has a softly textured finish through the central scene with a brighter border and raised lettering, giving the design good definition despite its relatively small 18 mm size.
 
St. Christopher medals have long been worn as traveller protection pendants, religious medals and good-luck charms, making this a lovely vintage Catholic devotional piece as well as an everyday sterling silver necklace pendant.
