Antique Bohemian Garnet Brooch · Gilt Silver Starburst Pin · Victorian Edwardian
An impressive antique Bohemian garnet brooch dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian period, circa 1890s–1910s.
The brooch is constructed as a large six-pointed floral starburst, with six open teardrop-shaped sections radiating from a densely set central garnet cluster. Each section is set with graduated deep red faceted garnets and accented by a larger round garnet positioned within the open centre.
The garnets range from rich wine red to brighter crimson as they catch the light. The closely spaced claw settings create the characteristic densely jewelled appearance associated with antique Bohemian garnet jewellery while the open sections give this unusually large brooch some visual lightness.
The reverse reveals the pierced construction and individual stone settings. The silver has a gilt finish, with age-related wear to the gilding and areas of darker patina visible, particularly on the reverse and around the settings.
A substantial antique garnet brooch at approximately 3.65 cm across.
