Antique Victorian Vulcanite Mourning Brooch · Carved Rose Floral Pin

An antique Victorian mourning brooch crafted in black vulcanite, featuring an elaborate raised rose and foliate design.
 
The elongated navette-shaped brooch centres on a dimensional rose surrounded by finely detailed leaves. An inset pointed frame follows the outline of the brooch, bordered by scrolling flourishes, fan-shaped details at either end and a finely notched outer edge. The combination of floral symbolism and black vulcanite is characteristic of mourning jewellery produced during the Victorian period.
 
The reverse is fitted with a long gold-tone pin stem and an early hinged pin construction. The pin extends beyond the body of the brooch when open, consistent with antique brooch construction.
 
The vulcanite retains its deep black appearance with subtle surface variation and wear from age. A beautifully detailed example of Victorian mourning jewellery that is also very wearable as an antique brooch.
